Early Warning Signs of Ovarian Cancer Every Woman Must Know

Ladies, can I ask you something – do you know what’s ovarian cancer? Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the ovaries. Women have two ovaries, one on each side of the uterus. The ovaries — each about the size of an almond — produce eggs (ova) as well as the hormones estrogen and progesterone.

Unfortunately, ovarian cancer often goes undetected until it has spread within the pelvis and abdomen. At this late stage, ovarian cancer is more difficult to treat and is frequently fatal. Early-stage ovarian cancer, in which the disease is confined to the ovary, is more likely to be treated successfully. According to the experts, surgery and chemotherapy are generally used to treat ovarian cancer. It’s not clear what causes ovarian cancer. Cancer begins when a genetic mutation turns normal cells into abnormal cancer cells. Cancer cells quickly multiply, forming a mass. They can invade nearby tissues and break off from an initial tumor to spread elsewhere in the body. This means that you should make an appointment with your doctor if you have any signs or symptoms that worry you:

    Persistent Bloating

Consistent bloating that goes on for more than 3 weeks!

    Lower Abdominal and Pelvic Pain

We all know that menstrual cramps and pain during menstruation are normal. But, persistent pain that lasts for more than 3 weeks can be a sign of ovarian cancer.  Pre-menopausal women should be very careful, because these symptoms are often mistaken for period pain.

    Difficulty Eating/Feeling Full Quickly

Lack of appetite and difficulty eating that comes out of the blue and goes on for more than three weeks can be a sign of different health issues, such as: stomach, intestine, and bowel problems.  But, sometimes it can be a sign of cancer as well. So, make sure you consult your doctor.

    Increased need to urinate

Ladies, if you “need” to visit the toilet more often than earlier, without any changes regarding the liquid intake, then you should see your doctor immediately.

    Lower back pain

Women with ovarian cancer can experience back pain when fluid accumulates in the pelvis or when the tumor spreads in the abdomen or pelvis, directly irritating tissue in the lower back. Ladies, you should be very careful and don’t ignore these symptoms. And if you notice any of them – you should see your doctor immediately.
